Manchester United news: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must clear out bad apples before signing any new players, says Tim Sherwood
Manchester United have been told they must get rid of the bad apples who are a cancer on their dressing room before signing any new players this summer.Tim Sherwood believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to be ruthless when the transfer window opens and do whatever it takes to get players he cant trust out the club. The huge cloud of gloom and uncertainty is back over Old Trafford with the club currently on their worst run of results in over 50 years.Manchester United were routinely beaten by Man City in Wednesday’s Manchester derby3
Manchester United were routinely beaten by Man City in Wednesday’s Manchester derby
United were beaten 2-0 at home by derby rivals Manchester City on Wednesday to inflict on them a seventh defeat from nine matches. The teams dreadful recent form has sparked big doubts over the futures of a number of big-name players, while Solskjaers future in charge is also unclear despite only being appointed permanent manager just weeks ago.The likes of Paul Pogba, Alexis Sanchez, David de Gea, Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford have all come under fire for their recent performances and have all been linked with moves away from the club this summer. Some have claimed there is a poisonous atmosphere within the United dressing room, with former captain Roy Keane saying following Wednesdays derby defeat: “These are the same players that threw [Jose] Mourinho under the bus, and they will do exactly the same to Ole.” And Sherwood believes drastic action is needed to ensure a brighter future for Manchester United. Those bad apples in the dressing room can be a cancer you need to get rid of them, the former Premier League winner and Tottenham manager told Fridays Sports Breakfast.Get rid of them first and if that means youve got to take a bath on your money, I think they have to do that.Who in their right mind is going to pay 350,000-a-week for Alexis Sanchez at the moment? Theyre not going to do it.So they need to get him out the door, subsidise his wages and clear it out before you start bringing new players in.The last thing you want is to bring new players in and they get poisoned by the bad apples.Alexis Sanchez looks dejected during the Manchester derby3

As well as Sanchez, Sherwood believes Pogba could be one of the first out of the door if Solskjaer decides he can no longer trust the France midfielder. The 26-year-old is a source of great frustration for fans due to his inconsistent performances and an apparent lack of effort on the pitch.

And Sherwood has accused the World Cup winner of playing for himself and not his team.Lets get it right, Paul Pogba is a top footballer, but the consistency level you need to play at a club like Manchester United is not there, he added. You can drop off your performance at Juventus, and he did a great job there, but it was in spells. When youre in a competitive league like the Premier League and youre playing for Man United youve got to have a level of consistency.Paul Pogba is under the spotlight again3
Paul Pogba is under the spotlight again
Ole sees him every single day, so if he feels hes not right for the dressing room and not right for the field, then he has to try and get him out.If he can get anywhere near his money back, I would agree. But Ole is the one who sees him every day, so he knows what the mentality of the boy is like and if he really is working for the cause. It cant be about Paul Pogba, it has to be about Manchester United. You need players who want to work for the team. When I watched United play against Barcelona, you could have done an analysis on two players, and they were two contrasts. You had Paul Pogba playing for Paul Pogba and you had Sergio Busquets playing for Barcelona. He was playing for his team, but Paul Pogba was playing for himself.
