And according to The Sun, Terry was instrumental in convincing Rice to play for England.Rice, 20, has forged a friendship with Terry after the then Blues captain called him following his release by the west London club as a 14-year-old and the pair have been in regular contact ever since.England boss Gareth Southgate made a massive pitch to try to recruit Rice after his emergence as one of the best young players in the country over the past 18 months.Terry, who made 78 appearances for England, is thought to have had a big influence on Rice’s decision2

But London-born Rice did have second thoughts about walking away from the Boys in Green having already made senior appearances for the country in friendly matches.

He said he took the decision based on the advice of his close family, but it is understood Terry’s counsel was also taken by Rice.The Aston Villa assistant boss is understood to have made it clear to Rice that choosing Englandwould be the best for his short-term development and long-term career.
