Mourinho left Old Trafford after just seven wins from 17 games this season, with United sitting 19 points off the top of the table and facing a huge battle to even make the top four. But Klopp has sympathy for his long-time rival and insists the disappointing reign at Old Trafford should take nothing away from the 55-year-old’s record in the game.“Hes a very competitive guy. Very ambitious. Really competitive. He has all my respect,” said the German.Hes unbelievably successful and I can imagine the last few months were not a joy for nobody, especially not him.“Its not nice when you have to face these questions every day but nobody can take away all the things he has won.I wish he has that in his mind and not other things that have happened in the last few months. He is an outstanding manager. Steven Gerrard, the former Liverpool captain now in charge of Rangers, also offered his support to Mourinho. He said: “Hes obviously a world-class manager. Hes been a rival for many, many years when I played, he said.Hes a winner, isnt he? I mean, how can I sit here and say anything about Jose Mourinho? Hes a serial winner, he always has been everywhere hes gone. Hes been sacked at United but hes won them a couple of trophies.Hes done the best job since Alex Fergusons left. It seemed they sort of struggled before that but Jose came in and put a couple of trophies in the cabinet, so I dont think you can criticise him too much.It will be interesting to see which direction they go in now with the new manager but none of the Manchester United fans will care what I say about it, so its none of my business.
